Renée was born and raised in Northern Ontario. After obtaining her Honours degree at McMaster University, she went on to complete her Master’s degree at the University of Guelph.
In 2008, Renée relocated to Australia where she completed her Juris Doctor degree with a focus in Criminal Law while working at a defence firm. She graduated with first class honours and trial advocacy recognition. After graduating, she went on to serve as an Associate to Judges sitting on both the Queensland District Court and Court of Appeal. Renée was admitted as a lawyer by the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2012 and moved on to practice criminal defence in Melbourne. During her time overseas, Renée gained experience in various criminal matters, including homicide and sexual assault jury trials.
In 2014 Renee returned to Canada where she worked with Criminal Specialist Berk Keaney. She joined Derstine Penman in the fall of 2017.
Renée has over a decade of experience working in the area of criminal law. She conducts criminal trials at all levels of court and appeals before the Ontario Court of Appeal. Her practice currently focuses on drugs, guns, organized crime, and homicide. She has a particular interest in the Charter and ensuring that her client’s rights are constitutionally protected.
